Bonderman, McClendon Suspended
October 2nd, 2009 | by jelletlambie |According to multiple reports Jeremy Bonderman has been suspended three games for hitting Delmon Young in the ninth inning of Thursdays game. Lloyd McClendon has been suspended one game, which he will serve tonight. Bonderman will appeal.
The Tigers were issued some $4,000 in fines, the total amount of fines for the Twins I haven’t seen, but the word is Jose Mijares will cough up $750 bucks for throwing behind Adam Everett. I’m assuming Ron Gardenhire will find other ways to punish Mijares as well, from the tenor of his post game comments yesterday.
I’m confused as to why Bonderman would appeal, as there are only three games left in the season. If the suspension is upheld, and if that process takes time it could mean Bondo missing time early next season, when he would possibly be in line for a spot in the rotation. No official quotes yet from Jeremy on the subject.
McClendon was suspended due to the fact that a warning had been issued prior to the plunking. In such cases the manager is automatically banned for one game. The funny part is Lloyd was not the manager at the time of the warning and was never formally made the manager of record after Jim Leyland was tossed in the eighth inning. McClendon acted as manager when he came onto the field to discuss the ninth inning incident with Umpire Angel Hernandez. Don’t get me started on Hernandez, who had an extra large stick up his butt for the Tigers all day Thursday.
At least Bob Watson acted quickly this time. When he suspended Fernando Rodney in September it took four days for his office to announce it. Watson has made a living of suspending Tigers this year it seems. Rick Porcello was banished for five games for his part in the Fenway Fracas in early August, then Rodney, now Bonderman and McClendon.
Do us all a favor Bob, find something to do besides exercising your ego on the backs of the Tigers.
