Tigers Acquire Aubrey Huff
August 17th, 2009 | by jelletlambie |In a surprise move the Detroit Tigers have traded minor league pitcher Brett Jacobson to the Baltimore Orioles for 1B/3B/DH Aubrey Huff, according to a report from MLB.com Tigers beat writer Jason Beck. The left handed hitting Huff has played both corner infield positions as well as both corner outfield positions over his career, giving the Tigers needed flexibility from an experienced hitter.
For the season Huff is hitting .253/.321/.405/.725 with 13 HR’s and 72 RBI’s. He has more runs batted in than any Tiger on the current roster this season. Huff is a free agent at the end of the 2009 season, which likely lead to his being placed on waivers by the Orioles.
Jacobson is a 6′6″ right handed pitcher from Vanderbilt University selected by the Tigers in the 4th round of last years entry draft. In 35 games at Lakeland this year Jacobson was 1-3 with a 3.74 ERA with a 44/17 K to BB ratio over 55.1 innings pitched. He is 22 years old.
