The Little Inge that Could, Did – Brandon selected to the All-Star Team
July 9th, 2009 | by jelletlambie |According to MLB.com Brandon Inge has won the AL final fan vote and will join Justin verlander, Edwin Jackson and Curtis Granderson in St. Louis. His ballot partner Shane Victorino from the Philadelphia Phillies will join him as the winner of the NL final fan vote.
Brandon received more than 11,800,000 votes to beat out Ian Kinsler of the Texas Rangers, who finished second after holding the lead through the first 48 hours. Shane Victorino received more than 15,600,000 votes to outlast Pablo “Kung-Fu Panda” Sandoval of the San Francisco Giants.
While this competition was limited to five choices Victorino has earned the title of the most voted for All-Star in history. Brandon smashed the AL Record with his total.
The “Bran Torino” marketing campaign put together by the Tigers and Phillies worked as planned, and likely has started a trend that will continue into next years final vote.
The Tigers will announce in the coming days which lucky fan will be chosen to walk the game ball to the mound at the August 4th home game. All fans who voted 100 times or more for Brandon through www.detroittigers.com are eligible to win the on-field experience, plus several other prizes.
The Tigers released the following statement from Team President Dave Dombrowski:
“We’re thrilled Brandon has been voted to join his teammates to represent the Detroit Tigers at the All-Star Game. It’s a tremendous honor to have such an opportunity. We especially want to thank all Tigers fans for their passionate support in the voting process.”

Brandon Inge is an All-Star. Isn’t that the fourth sign of the apocalypse?
Seriously though, if that doesn’t make you feel good you don’t have a pulse. All that he’s has been through, losing his job twice and coming back like he has. Finally listening to coaches and making adjustments at the plate. And what an effort by the team and fans to make it happen.
I’m sure Granderson and the others feel great about their selections, but I’d guess that having happen the way it did has got to mean more to Inge than if Joe Maddon had picked him to be there.

Brandon can now brag that more people voted for him to go to the All-Star game than for any AL player ever.

My lady is an admin at The U of M hospital, and there were many emails encouraging votes from any and all employees to hurry up and vote Inge to the All-Star team. He is loved at the hospital for hours upon hours of time donated to spending time with the sick children and he is a generous contributor to Motts Children Hospital. He has many supporters because he is a class act!

I’ve heard many stories like that about Brandon over the years. For a long time I was critical of his play, at least his hitting, but his reputation for giving back to the community and being a solid clubhouse guy always balanced the equation. It’s nice to see his numbers improve and to know he’s being recognized for it.
Thanks for the read Nick. Hopefully we can catch up at the ballpark soon.
