I'd be more interested if it was still the spring. He's probably not injured, or the Jays would keep him for an injury settlement. He reportedly wouldn't accept a minor league assignment with the Jays, and was unhappy with his workload. Not sure I'd risk the bullpen with someone with the lack of control that Ryan is showing. I don't think he's a 'cancer' but he is clearly unhappy at the moment. Maybe he just needs a Detroit coney dog.

Detroit would be at in the middle to the end of the waiver wire, and though its a silent auction of sorts, i'm not sure they can back-channel the minor league assignment idea to his agent. If he's cool with going to Toledo (and I can't tell if he actually has options left to use), then its a great idea. If he'd have to remain on the roster, i'd skip it.

Just due to the fact that he would sign for the minimum makes him worth a look. The Tigers would have absolutely nothing to lose, especially if he were to report to Toledo first, when he was ready they could option Ni back down and give him his shot. I think it's a great idea.

He might offer nothing at all, but, but - If he can find his old form he would be a terrific addition, and it costs next to nothing to find out, which is what I love most about it.

Thanks for your thoughts Ian

Nice work on the mobile commenting

I want to say yes, because that was certainly my first instinct. But other than his experience, I'm not sure Ryan offers much more than anyone else the Tigers could call up from the minors (Perry, Fien, etc.).

However, if the two sides are interested, Ryan is certainly worth looking into.
